A Nice Place to Put All Those Sites

Here's an idea for all you homeschoolers who use a lot of web resources. Make your own homepage. No, not to publish, but just to keep on your desktop to make all those sites you use easily accessible. Here's a screenshot of the one I've set up for my squirts. If you're not sure how to go about doing this, head on over to about.com's Make an Internet Games Page for Your Child. It shows you how to put one together using Microsoft Word. I put mine together mostly using stuff I learned at Lissa Explains It All-HTML Help for Kids (yeah, I'm not a kid, but there's no easier way to learn something than from a kid's guide; and this applies to most stuff, including crocheting, programming vbasic, and braiding hair!).

If you like the idea of compiling all your goodies into one place, but don't have the time to put an official "page" together, try this quick and dirty method with your IE favorites list (I run on IE7, no hecklers please).

1. First you need to have saved all the sites you want access to on your favorites list.
2. Click on the File menu, then Import and Export.
3. Select Export Favorites, and click on the Next button.
4. Select the favorites folder you want to include on your page, then Next. Now, find the file you want to save your stuff in, and give the new document a name. Click Next. Click Finish. Click OK.
5. Now, wherever you saved this file, find it and open it. It opens as a web page with "Bookmarks" at the top, and all of your clickable links in front of you.

Do you want to make it prettier? In your documents folder, instead of double-clicking on your file to open it, right-click once, and select "Open With," and choose your word processor. Now you can go ahead and decorate to your heart's content. Just remember to save it when you're done! Go ahead and give it a shortcut on your desktop too, just for good measure. Have fun!
