Scheduling Two-fer!

At our home, summer is just too hot to enjoy much time outside. Fall, that's the most incredible time down here. Even with hurricanes, it's still hands down the best weather we get all year. Even though there's a lot of flexibility with homeschooling, my kids wouldn't stand for trading in summers off with their buddies for more time to play in the autumn. I've come up with a compromise. This year, we are starting one week early. Instead of taking off that extra week in the October, I've scheduled 2 light weeks. 1 week of half the subjects, 1 week with the other half. This way, we don't get behind in any particular subject, we don't lose momentum with the schooling, but we still get to feel like we're taking a break, and we still get more time to enjoy that glorious cool weather. If this works well for us, I'll pull a day or two off of a springtime holiday and distribute it in a similar fashion. Do you have any ideas for scheduling that have worked well for your family? Leave a comment to share with everyone about it.
