Southern Hospitality!

Well, I would say that our house is fairly safe from the worst of the hurricane. It's a brick home, we're well out of the flood zone, and as they say down here, "We're north of Interstate 10." However, with 4 kids, we're not hanging around. It just so happens we were off for a long Labor Day weekend anyway. That doesn't mean we don't have hurricane preparations though. Not only do we have to pull in everything outside that might fly off, but we also have to stock up the house with all the standard power outage supplies. All of the batteries have been charged and the flashlights refreshed. We're putting away lots of water, the battery operated radio has been pulled out, and I guess I'm going to have to give the bathrooms a once (or twice!) over.

Why, do you say? That would be because our house is fairly safe from the worst of the hurricane. Our family and friends who cannot say the same have an open invitation to ride out the storm at our home while we are gone. There's a key box with a combination lock outside just in case they want to head over at the last minute. My lovely cousin had somewhere upwards of 25 people in her slightly more northerly home for Rita. Under the circumstances, hospitality doesn't even need to include enough guest bedrooms. If you are blessed enough to have a safe place for a big storm, remember that there are many who can't leave for whatever reason, and consider making it available to them.
