Old Phonebook Shuffle

We recently received our updated phonebook, and I was quite pleased this year. Why on earth, would you ask? It's because I have absolutely worn out my old one. No, not the pristine one sitting in the cabinet by the phone, but the one in my van. I put the new one in its spot by the phone, then pulled out last year's edition to swap out with the tattered one in the van.

So if you're old hat with the directory in the vehicle idea, take a moment to refresh your stash, but if this idea is foreign to you, let me expound for a moment. Having a directory in your vehicle can save you hours of shopping time and frustration when that "need to have" item wasn't at the store you thought it would be. Do not waste gas or, heaven forbid, drag the kiddoes around town looking for it. Pull out the directory and the cell and let your fingers do the walking before you even leave the parking lot. This is also great if you're riding with your honey and think of a call you forgot to make. The number one, greatest, all-time, use for that directory: look up the number to the movie theater on the way there and buy your tickets ahead of time to avoid the line, and get good seats.

Great idea!
We have a pay as u go phone, so, to get a number cost $$....having a phone book in the van would put a stop to this! Thanks for the tip, U just saved me some loot!!

Amen. Love having a book in the car. Has saved me on several recent trips, and I don't have to pay those high 411 call rates.

We just moved to the Miami area and we are driving around with FOUR gigantic phonebooks in our van! Just last week my son and I decided to go buy donuts and we thought we'd seen a Dunkin' Donuts closeby. Luckily, we had the phone books and could actually find that donut shop!

Personally, I've given up on directories and use Google's directory assistance service. 800-GOOG-411. (800-466-4411)

It's free. As kenc mentions, not all 411 services are free, but this one is.

When you call in, it asks for the city/state you're interested in, then for the category or business name. They'll connect you for free. Very cool.
