Home sweet home!

Well, we're home and the power is back on. Our home didn't sustain any damages from the wind, but the power outage and the fridge defrost drainpipe did quite a number on our floor. The good news is, our refrigerators haven't looked this clean in ages. Sparkling and shiny even!

We generally get our power back pretty quickly compared to others in our area, so there are still quite a few people in our parish who are without power. Even so, the gas and ice lines are shrinking dramatically (weehoo), and yards are getting cleaned up. Most schools start back up on Monday. Even though Gustav wasn't a very strong hurricane category wise, it's biggest strength seemed to be the frequency and sustainability of its top wind gusts. It was quite impressive even for some hurricane veterans in our area. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

As an aside, I just want to illustrate to those of you who are not from Louisiana or Mississippi exactly what the word "humidity" really means. Imagine a 5 lb. bag of free flowing white sugar. What would you have to do to it to turn it into a solid block of sugar? In Louisiana, all you have to do is leave it in the pantry without running the air conditioning for 5 days.
